Parts list: find, hide and isolate parts of an assembly

See every part of an assembly, find one by name, hide the ones in the way, or show one on its own. Your clients open the model the way you left it.

For a model with more than one part, such as a STEP assembly or a GLB with several objects, the Parts list button on the viewer's left toolbar (shortcut P) lists every part, nested the way the file nests them. It works on your model pages, on client review links and in the free viewer.

Find a part

  1. Open the Parts list

Click the Parts list button, or press P.

  2. Search by name

Type in Find a part. Sub-assemblies open with the arrow next to their name.

  3. Click a name

The part is highlighted and the camera turns to it. With the list open, clicking a part on the model finds it in the list too.

Hide a part, or show only one

  • The eye hides a part (or a whole sub-assembly). Click it again to bring it back.
  • The target shows that part on its own and flies to it. Click it again to see everything.
  • Show all parts at the bottom, or Show all in the note at the top of the model, brings every part back.

Notes pinned on a hidden part are hidden with it, and clicking through where a hidden part was puts a note on what's behind it.

What your client sees

On a model page, what you hide is saved, like the section cut and exploded view: your clients open the model with the same parts hidden, see a note saying so, and can show everything with one click. Nothing they do changes what you saved.

Where the part names come from

The names in the list are the ones in your file. A STEP exported from SolidWorks, Fusion, Inventor or Onshape keeps its part and sub-assembly names, so name them in your CAD program before you export and your client sees "Bearing housing" rather than "Part 7". A part without a name in the file is listed as Part and its number. Parts that share a name, such as four identical bolts, are listed one by one, so each can be hidden on its own. See how to export a STEP for the settings that keep names and colours.
