Privacy, security and deleting your account
Where MeshMarkup stores your models, who can open a review link, what the free viewer keeps, your cookie choices, and how to export or delete your data.
Your models are stored privately in the EU and have no public address. The only way anyone outside your studio sees one is through a review link you create, which is unlisted, never indexed by search engines, and can be switched off at any time. The free viewer never uploads your file at all. You can download everything in your studio as a JSON file, and delete your account yourself, under Settings → Profile.
The full legal detail is in the privacy policy. This guide covers the practical questions studios ask before sending a client's unreleased product.
Where your files are stored
Accounts, notes and uploaded model files are stored with Supabase, in its EU region. The site is served by Vercel. Emails go out through Resend, and payments through Stripe, which holds your card; MeshMarkup never sees card numbers. The privacy policy lists every company that handles data for us, what each one sees and where.
What MeshMarkup does and doesn't do with your work:
- Files are stored privately. There is no public address for a model file; even a review link opens it through a signed address that expires.
- Studios are kept apart in the database itself, not just by the pages on top of it, so a bug in a page can't show one studio another's models.
- We don't sell your data, don't use your models to train anything, and don't look at your files unless you ask us to help with a specific problem.
- Analytics are cookie-less and never include a model name, a file or an email address. A model name can be a client's unreleased product.
Who can open a review link
A review link is unlisted: only people who have the address can open it. The address ends in a long random code that can't be guessed. Review pages are kept out of search engines, so a link can't be found by searching.
MeshMarkup stores only a scrambled (hashed) copy of each link's code, so even a copy of our database isn't a set of working links.
You stay in control of every link:
- Give each client their own link. The Share menu shows how many times each one has been opened.
- Set an expiry of 7 days or 30 days when you create a link, or leave it at No expiry.
- Switch a link off with Switch this link off in the Share menu. It stops working straight away for whoever has it, and everything said through it stays on the model.
Reviewers only see the model you shared and the notes on it. Internal notes are filtered out on the server before anything reaches their browser, not just hidden on the page. More in share links and permissions.
The free viewer never uploads
Files you open in the free viewer are read in your own browser. Conversion from FBX, STEP, Rhino and the other formats happens on your computer too. Nothing is sent to a server, so there's no copy anywhere and nothing to delete afterwards.
The model is only uploaded if you click Share in the free viewer and choose to send it, and then only to your own account. The same applies in the app: an FBX, STEP or zip is converted to GLB in your browser, and only the GLB is uploaded.
Cookies and analytics
- One cookie keeps you signed in. It's needed for the app to work, so it isn't optional.
- On the public pages (home, pricing, the free viewer, sign-in) a Privacy Settings banner asks about three optional groups: Functional (remembering choices such as your currency), Marketing (the Meta Pixel, the Google Ads tag and the Reddit Pixel, to see whether our ads work) and Advertising (sign-up, first review link and subscription milestones, reported to Meta, Google and Reddit). Choose Accept All, Deny, or set the switches and click Save Settings.
- Nothing from Meta loads unless you allow it, and never inside the app, on review links or on invitations.
- Change your mind any time with Cookie settings at the foot of every public page. Withdrawing removes Meta's cookies from the site.
Usage analytics use Vercel Analytics, which sets no cookies and doesn't identify you.
Export your data first
Before deleting anything, take a copy.
Open Settings → Profile
Click your name at the bottom of the sidebar. Profile is the first tab.
Click Download my data
Under Your data, this downloads every project, model record, note and reply in your studio as one JSON file.
Keep your model files
The export lists where each model file was stored, but doesn't include the files themselves, because a studio's uploads can run to gigabytes. Keep your own exported GLBs or originals.
Delete your account
Deleting your account is immediate and can't be undone. Support can't restore it afterwards.
Cancel any paid plan first
If your studio pays for a plan, cancel it under Settings → Billing → Manage your subscription → Cancel subscription before you delete your account. See plans and billing.
Scroll to Delete your account
It's at the bottom of Settings → Profile. Before you can go further, it lists exactly what would be removed.
Read the list
Studios where you're the only owner are listed as deleted with you, with their number of models and how much storage they use. Every model file, note and review link in them stops working immediately. A studio that has another owner stays, and you're only removed from it.
Confirm
Click Delete my account, type delete my account in the box, and click Delete.
Your stored model files are removed first, then the records that pointed to them, then your account. In a studio that survives you, your comments stay in the history without your name. For the fine print on what's kept afterwards (invoices are kept as long as tax law requires), see the privacy policy.
Deleting a whole workspace without deleting your account isn't self-service yet; Settings → Workspace says so. Email hello@meshmarkup.com and it's done by hand. For anything else about your data, including a copy in another form or a correction, email the same address. A person answers.
